The Department of Artificial Intelligence in Biomedical Engineering (AIBE) at FAU is "Best Research Environment 2024". The award was presented by the Young Academy and the Volkswagen Foundation for the first time ever.

A new building for teaching and research at FAU will be constructed at Henkestraße 42 - a modern architectural calling card for the entire university. Following an architectural competition and planning, the Nuremberg State Building Authority is now starting preparatory work for the demolition of the existing building in August.

Prof. Dr. Elmar Gräßel was awarded the Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his outstanding achievements in dementia research and voluntary work. The FAU researcher accepted the award from the hands of Bavarian Minister President Dr. Markus Söder.

Prof. Dr. Kilian Schober from FAU is researching the receptors of T cells. His aim is to better understand the biology of these cells and to develop medical applications from them. The young scientist has been awarded a Heisenberg Professorship for his research achievements.

This year's m4 Award goes to the team led by physician PD Dr. Dr. Peter Dietrich. The team receives 500,000 euros for its iLivE project to develop an RNAi therapy that can be used to treat liver metastases.

A multidisciplinary team of scientists at FAU and Erlangen University Hospital is researching diagnostic and treatment options for the gynecological disease endometriosis. The Bavarian State Ministry of Health, Care, and Prevention is funding this project with three million euros.

In April 2025, two months before the calculated due date, quadruplets were born at the gynecological clinic of Erlangen University Hospital. Everyone is delighted with the happy outcome. After all, it is by no means a given that all four children will be fit and healthy enough to be discharged after just a few weeks when it comes to premature multiples.

Support for trainees during the first year of their apprenticeship? That is the idea behind the project “AzubiCoaching”. For six months, economics students coach trainees and help them make the most of their apprenticeship. Two of those involved in the project are student Selin and dialog marketing trainee Rimedina, who are working together as one of the tandems.
