In time for spring, FAU’s Scented Garden at the Palmsanlage is opening its gates for visitors again. The first visitors can meander through the garden and enjoy the first signs of spring, past sweet smelling plants such as sweet violets or cordyalis.

Many bright minds study, research and work at our FAU. Like the FAU alumni Pauline Nöldemann and Yannick Wiesner: They developed the BesserEsser app - an app for detecting and treating food intolerances. Our colleague Johanna Hojer met both of them for an interview.

Although the two huge icefields in the Andes in South America cover approximately 16,000 square kilometers, not much is known about the Patagonian icefields.

She is a member of the Bundestag and Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of Finance: FAU alumna Katja Hessel. In addition to her job as a politician, Katja Hessel also works as a lawyer in her own law firm. The Executive Board at FAU has a new member: Humboldt professor Prof. Dr. Andrea Bréard has been appointed Vice President Education and will be responsible for the area of education over the next three years. In her new role, she hopes to lay greater emphasis on the concept of “educational integrity”.

FAU is one of more than 350 academic institutions standing up for diversity by taking part in the #Zusammenland initiative. The University is taking a stance against right-wing extremism and standing up for freedom, democracy, diversity and a welcoming culture.

The Standing Committee on Vaccination (STIKO) elected Prof. Dr. Klaus Überla as its new chair during its inaugural meeting. The director of the Institute of Clinical and Molecular Virology at Uniklinikum Erlangen and Chair of Clinical and Molecular Virology at FAU has been a member of the committee since 2017.
