It is the second time that Prof. Dr. Peter Wasserscheid has received an Advanced Investigator Grant from the European Research Council. With the grant of 2.5 million euros, Wasserscheid intends to push forward research into a fundamental new concept for catalysis.

For the first time, researchers from FAU demonstrate that the number of plant species on mountain summits increases when the intensity of climate change increases

Understanding deformation processes in the Earth's crust and plate tectonics: Structural geologist Dr. Michel Bestmann from the working group for Structural Geology and Tectonics at GeoZentrum Nordbayern at FAU has been researching the causes of earthquakes with scientists from the universities of Genoa and Padua.

In March 2018, the Japanese Consul General Tetsuya Kimura was welcomed at FAU.

Dr. Lipiao Bao's research interest focuses on the chemistry and material science of carbon allotropes, the synthesis and separation of novel fullerenes as well as their structure, properties and applications, crystal engineering and structural programming of molecules among others. As an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow, he will further his research at the Chair for Organic Chemistry II at FAU.

Geographers from FAU have been investigating the effects of climate change and land use in the Southern Levant since the last ice age. In conjunction with other researchers from Jordan, Israel and Palestine, they have been examining dust deposits in ancient ruins, reservoirs and terraced fields to the east and west of the Jordan Valley.

FAU is one of the top 150 universities in the world in three individual subjects, according to the latest QS World University Ranking.

In March 2018, a delegation from the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) Faculty of Health from Brisabene, Australia, visited FAU. The aim of the visit was to lay the foundation for future cooperation.
